Basic, smaller and more affordable houseboats are comparable to a very comfortable camping experience. The living and sleeping quarters can be quite cozy but include modern amenities such as an electrical generator, a galley kitchen and a head equipped with toilet and shower. Many families choose to go together and share the cost of a houseboat for sale or houseboat rental making this a very affordable investment or family vacation experience.

Houseboats are a popular vacation option on many protected inland lakes, rivers, and coastal waterways. Renting a houseboat before you seriously consider investing in a houseboat for sale is always a good idea. Rental operators are based at marinas that serve all of the popular houseboat destinations. Houseboats rent by the length. Longer lengths are more expensive but will accommodate more people; typically anywhere from four to ten or even twelve people. Houseboat rentals usually come with most everything you would normally find in a land-based condominium. These may include air conditioning, a galley with refrigeration, a head with a shower, eating and sleeping areas, gas barbeque, a water slide, plus plenty of deck space and covered shade. Always check carefully with the rental operator to determine what will be provided with the houseboat. Note: Bed linens, pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, and bath and hand towels are typically not provided. The rental operator must provide a personal flotation Device (PFD) or life jacket for every person on board the houseboat rental.
One down side to a houseboat rental: houseboats aren’t very fast. So many people also rent a powerboat or jet skis. This allows everyone a comfortable and mobile living space plus speed and power for the water sports enthusiasts in your family.
Most houseboats are can not be moved or towed by trailer. Marina operators will rent houseboat moorings or houseboat slips as well as dry storage facilities for the off season.
Every houseboat enthusiast has a favorite spot for their get-a-way houseboat trips. I’ll mention one of mine although there are many excellent and enjoyable spots throughout North America.
